The Countries of St Maarten and the Netherlands wish to carry out research into the social security system of St Maarten. Given the agreed arrangements with the Netherlands in the form of the national package and the Implementation Agenda, the project ‘Incentives for employment and an adequate social safety net: a study into the system of social security (E.4.)’ aims to provide St Maarten with a financially sustainable social security system that has appropriate incentives for employment (activation function) and an adequate social safety net. Also, the aim is to improve its designs and functioning to ensure that the people of St Maarten have more capacity for resilience after socio-economic shocks caused by natural hazards. The objective of the Contract is to provide concrete and prioritized policy recommendations for the government of St Maarten on achieving a financially sustainable social security system with appropriate incentives for employment and an adequate social safety net.
